Melon Shell ~ Size: 28 - 30cm
Classification: Melo aethiopica
A popular shell with collectors, it is shiny and smooth, has a wide mouth opening with a distinctive row of spines in a circled pattern around the crown, which adds to the shell's appeal to have on display.
The colour ranges from cream/mild brown to apricot/light orange which generally runs throughout the whole shell.
These shell are also known as "bailers" for bailing water out of boats!
Large Melon Shell
This extensively large shell is the home of an extremely large marine sea snail. They are found across the Indo- Pacific region.
These off-shore shells are often found on the sandy bottom of the sea floor and fairly common to the region.
